Toorak College has again been declared Equestrian Victoria Champion School for 2019 at the State Championships. Toorak had 26 riders compete where Stephanie Ivanovic, Bella Warner, Emma Hercules and Theodora Newman were the top four riders across all disciplines.
Student Bella Warner spoke to Equestrian Life about her equine journey.
How long have you been riding with Toorak?
I have been riding with the Toorak team ever since I came to Toorak in Year 5, so six years.
What do you enjoy about Equestrian?
I enjoy the thrill of riding because it can be an adventurous sport. I also enjoy being a part of such a supportive and talented team of girls.
How challenging was it for you when you first got on the horse?
It is so scary getting on a horse for the first time. Being high above the ground and not knowing what your horse is going to do next is quite terrifying. With practice, the fear slowly subsides.
How hard did you train for the state championships?
I train six days a week in order to keep my horse at peak performance with the help of my coaches and parents along the way. It is a very difficult sport because horses cannot tell you when something is wrong. They can injure themselves, which puts your goals and aspirations on hold.
How does Toorak support you to be the best rider you can be?
Toorak encourages us to try our hardest and support each other no matter what. They bring us all together to celebrate all of our hard work.
Toorak offers VET and VCE Equine Studies. Visit Toorak College’s website to book a tour.
