Equestrian Victoria has paid tribute to Hall of Fame Inductee Graeme Barker, who sadly passed away last week.

Graeme was known as “the voice of the equestrian world” through his commentary at some of the country’s biggest events, and prior to that was a top rider who was named champion boy rider at Royal Melbourne and also rode with success in the famous Gawler Three Day Event.

“(Graeme Barker’s) contributions to the horse industry over more than 40 years were immense and far-reaching, leaving an indelible mark on all who witnessed his work,” said Equstrian Victoria in a statement on Monday.

“Inducted into the Equestrian Victoria Hall of Fame in 2022, Graeme’s passion and dedication to the sport were evident in every word he spoke and every event he graced with his presence. As the voice of the biggest events in the country, he brought excitement to jumping classes, shared the rich history of the Garryowen, and made the intricacies of the sport accessible to all.

“Beyond his undeniable talent as a commentator, Graeme’s commitment to the betterment of the horse, its breeding, and its welfare resonated deeply with all who shared his love for these magnificent creatures. His impact extended beyond the arena, connecting the whole of the equestrian community.”

Equestrian Life’s thoughts are with Graeme’s family and friends.
