Valegro turns 20

By Equestrian Life

Charlotte Dujardin’s Olympic gold medal winning partner, Valegro, has turned 20 years of age.

‘Blueberry’, who celebrated the birthday milestone on Tuesday 5 July, still holds the world records in all three Grand Prix-level tests. At Olympia in 2014 he and Charlotte set the Grand Prix Freestyle world record of 94.3% and Grand Prix world record of 87.46%. They achieved 88.022% to set the Grand Prix Special record at Hagen in 2012.

Owned by Carl Hester, Rowena Luard and Anne Barrott, Valegro enjoyed immense Championship success in the dressage arena with Charlotte. The pair claimed individual and team gold medals at the London Olympics in 2012, as well as individual gold and team silver at the Rio Olympics in 2016, alongside numerous successes at World Cups, European Championships and World Equestrian Games.

Valegro was retired on 14 December 2016, an occasion that was marked with a special performance at the London International Horse Show.

A wonderful horse whose achievements in the dressage arena will never be forgotten. Happy 20th birthday Valegro!
