Weihegold OLD to retire following Leipzig World Cup Final
By Equestrian Life
Isabell Werth has confirmed that star mare Weihegold OLD will be retired following the World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany, this April.
Speaking to Dressursport Deutschland, Isabell explained how the original plan was to retire the 17-year-old (by Don Schufro x Sandro Hit) at Frankfurt last December, however “the pandemic threw a spanner in the works.”
Weihegold was bred by Inge Bastian and is owned by Christine Arns-Krogman.
As defending champion, Isabell has a confirmed start in the Final, however Weihegold needs to have started in at least two World Cup legs during the season to compete in the Final; at this stage, she’s only started at one. The FEI may alter the rules due to the fact so many legs have been cancelled with the pandemic, however if they don’t then Weihegold will likely start at the final leg in `s-Hertogenbosch in mid-March.
Isabell has also just debuted a new horse at Grand Prix level, Superb. The pair won their first national Grand Prix at Ankum with 79.533%, and Isabell plans to start the horse again in the national Grand Prix at the upcoming Neumünster World Cup show, where she’ll ride stallion Quantaz in the CDI-W.
