Welcome to the October issue of Equestrian Life magazine!
Four-in-hand driving legend Boyd Exell and his team have just won a sixth FEI World Championship title in Pratoni del Vivaro. Through dust and rain, it was a historic win that saw the Australian lead from start to finish.
The second leg of the FEI World Championships also saw our eventers in action. Hazel Shannon on WillingaPark Clifford and Shenae Lowings on Bold Venture were both proud of their tough Thoroughbreds, showing again that OTTs have an important role in eventing. From a team perspective, however, Pratoni didn’t go as planned — as Heath Ryan analyses in Ryan’s Rave.
In an extensive interview, Maree Tomkinson tells Roger Fitzhardinge of the joy of working with Emma Booth and Fürst Deluxe in the para dressage arena at the FEI World Championships, and of competing Friday IV at the FEI WBFSH Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses.
Willinga Park’s stunning jumping stadium was finally used for it’s intended discipline after several Covid delays, and Jumping@Willinga did not disappoint; we catch up with Josh Collins, whose winning performance in the 4CYTE Grand Prix Spectacular was particularly exciting! On the jumping front, we also meet young Aussie Jacob Wells, who currently works and trains at Stal Tops.
With breeding season in full swing, we catch up with Christan Trainor of Glenhill Sporthorses to find out more about how she produces modern dressage athletes, while Nikki Harding introduces us to LipiData — a world-first database for Lipizzaner horses.
Elsewhere in our October Magazine, we remind you that uplifting as spring is, it’s a time to be alert on the health front. Kerry Mack warns of the risks of too much mud exposure, while Dr Maxine Brain reminds us of yet another foaling issue.
We also introduce the unique equine paintings of sporthorse breeder Brooke Major, while Suzy Jarratt lifts the lid on Antonio Banderas’s riding skills in The Mask of Zorro. Happy reading!
