Stylish Player wins Wrigley Cattle Co Open Classic Challenge at Wingman NCHA Autumn Spectacular
The Wingman National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Autumn Spectacular is currently taking place in Scone, with quality cutting horses flocking from around the country to compete at the first major NCHA event since the Covid-19 lockdowns. With last year’s NCHA Futurity cancelled, competitors have been keen to get out and make the most of this event!
Although the main competition, the Wingman Open Futurity final, is still to come on Saturday, there have already been some stellar performances.
A ‘talented, athletic and accurate’ mare, Stylish Player was crowned the winner of the Wrigley Cattle Co Open Classic Challenge at the Wingman NCHA Autumn Spectacular in Scone yesterday.
Scoring a massive 222 points, Stylish Player was trained and ridden by Seymour, Victoria-based Dean Holden.
“She’s very efficient in what she does and gives 110 per cent every time,” Mr Holden said after the win.
“She’s a lot of fun to show. She sometimes likes to go a lot faster than I want to go, half the time I just try to hang on,” he said.
Mr Holden began training Stylish Player as a two-year-old after she had been broken in by one of the co-owners, Chris Ware. The other owner in the partnership is Jodie Mearns.
The mare has already developed a fantastic track record in big events Mr Holden said, including making the final of the Futurity at Tamworth, and other wins in a Derby and Futurity in Victoria.
Stylish Player’s performance at the completion of the first and second go-rounds gave a strong indication it was going to be her day, placing equal first with Shines Like Metallic with the aggregate score of 438 points.
Second place in the final went to Driving Miss Royal ridden by Aaron Wheatley, Victoria with 218 points and Shines Like Metallic ridden by Phil Dawson, Glen Innes, was in third place with 217 points.
Scone local Warwick Screen aboard I’m Smooth won the Scone RSL Limited Open Final with a nice 220pt run.
