Abcra Junior Finals Round 3

 Monday, the 21st January, saw the completion of round three of the ABCRA National Finals Junior Rodeo. The round saw some excellent competition with many fast times and high scores being recorded in a last minute race to gain a few extra points to secure the title or a place in the average.

The 14-U18 Invitational Junior Bull Ride saw some outstanding rides with both the bulls and riders at their best. Lindsay Frizell was determined to stay on for the eight seconds and he sure made it worth it with an impressive ride, scoring 83 points to win the round. Mitchell Tidyman made another good ride to finish in second place on a score of 77. In third was local competitor Cody Berriman who managed to stay on board his bull for the eight seconds for a score of 69.
 
The U11 Junior Barrel Race was a highlight of the night with some very fast times being made. Sophie Crawley had many fans cheering for her during her victory lap after riding Icon for a blistering time of 18.04 to win the round. Not far behind in second place with a time of 18.11 was talented young Mackenzie Raaen, and in third was Matt Canham with another consistent ride and a time of 18.35.
The 11-U14 Junior Barrel Race was very close, however it was Moonbi’s Bianca Canham who edged ahead of the rest to win the round with a very fast time of 17.86. Olivia Harris stopped the clocks with an 18.24 to finish in second place and Dana Jane Nock and
Taya Hill tied for third place with an 18.26.
 
In the 8-U18 Junior Breakaway Roping, Jordan Austin was the quickest with the winning time of 2.18 seconds. Tamworth’s Courtney Hallam made a quick catch in 2.93 seconds to take home second place and Anna Crisp was third with a time of 3.15.
The 14-U18 Juvenile Barrel Race was one of the quickest and most competitive rounds we’ve seen at the Junior National Finals yet, with some very fast times recorded. Crossing the finishing line with the quickest time of the night was Courtney McKinley to win the round with a 17.76. Not far behind was Wendy Batchelor who finished second after stopping the clocks with a 17.82. Carly Wilkes took home third place with a time of 18.07.
 
In the 8-U11 Junior Steer Ride Oliver Towell was the round winner after having a good ride to score 76 points. Only one point behind to finish in second place was Thomas Nash and in third place with a score of 74 was Toby Adams.
Nicholas Penrose and Jonty Raaen both scored 73 to equal first place in the 11-U14 Junior Steer Ride. Dylan Talbot scored 71 to secure third place and Oscar Leake scored 69 to finish fourth.
 
After a good ride in the 14-U18 Juvenile Steer Ride, Daniel Rogan finished in the number one position to win the round with a score of 79. Kurt Shephard and Brendon Crawley both scored 74 points to equal for second place.
