Australian para-dressage rider Amelia White and Genius 60 have placed second in two classes and recorded a personal best score on the first two days of competition at the CHI Al Shaqab presented by Longines in Doha.

The talented combination won second in both the in the FEI CPEDI3* Team Test - Grade V with 67.907 %, and the CPEDI3* Individual Test - Grade V where they scored 70.437%, beating Thursday's personal best score, and finishing only 0.555% behind the winner.

Going back over the excitement of Thursday's first personal best, Amelia was quoted on the Australian Equestrian Team’s Facebook page saying, "It was really good today it was very nerve-racking. I warmed up very well and I was very focussed, then we rode through the tunnel to the arena and it is absolutely huge inside and as I entered the arena I was so struck that I almost forgot I had to ride."

The post went on to say, “Even more impressive is the fact that Amelia and Genius competed today without any arena familiarisation.”

"There was a very big miscommunication with the training times and they told us we weren’t allowed to ride in the competition arena prior to the competition so we didn’t get a chance to train in the competition area due to this miscommunication with the steward; so I was really unsure of how he was going to react in there today but I was really pleased.

"He was concentrating and very focussed and I am really looking forward to tomorrow. It is a new day and you never know what is going to come up but we are going to go in there and do our best again and take a bit more of a risk and hope that it pays off" said Amelia.”

In yesterday's incredible test, Amelia and Genius once again smashed their personal best score from Thursday by almost 3 per cent.

"I think it gives a really good feeling for what it might be like to ride in Tokyo so that was really good and I really appreciate the opportunity to be able to ride at a competition like this particularly given the pandemic.

"The competition is so well run, it is incredibly organised, the people are super friendly and very helpful and it is just a very good opportunity to be able to ride at a competition like this, particularly when we haven’t been able to get out. My last FEI competition was 2019 so it has been a very good experience to get back into it and I have really missed it " said Amelia.

Amelia's campaign in Doha will finish today following the Freestyle competition.
