The Brisbane CDI, Queensland’s premier dressage event, saw riders converge on QSEC for four days of exciting competition.

Sue Hearn and her Olympic horse Remmington dominated the CDI 3* classes, winning the Grand Prix (personal best score of 70.580%), Grand Prix Special (69.824%) and Grand Prix Freestyle (personal best score of 72.435%). Shannan Goodwin and Aristede were consistent throughout and finished runner up in both the Grand Prix and Special. In the Freestyle, nineteen year old Mary Warren and stallion Mindarah Park Ramaden posted a personal best Freestyle score to finish in second place.

The Brisbane CDI is the first CDI 3* in the Preliminary Selection Period for Australian-based riders looking to qualify for WEG 2018, and therefore provided the opportunity to post a qualifying score. As such, event organisers allowed for late entries to ensure those vying for selection had a chance to take part.

In the Grand Prix CDN classes, Tor Van Den Berge and Lauries As won the Grand Prix CDN (66.000%) and Grand Prix Freestyle CDN (68.105%). Gary Lung and GB Winchester, who were runner up in the aforementioned classes, were the only combination to contest the Grand Prix Special CDN.

The Inter A CDN was won by Emma Flavelle-Watts and Fascinate, while the Inter B CDN was won by Robyne Smith and KS Beauchamp. The Inter I and Inter II classes were hotly contested with a sizable number of entries. In the Inter I, Justine Greer and Jaybee Angelina were the only combination to crack 70%, Scoring 71.211% — it certainly made the trip up from Victoria worthwhile! Justine had a big weekend, with a highlight being her first and second place in the Prix St Georges CDN with Jaybee Anglina and Jaybee Cavalier.

In the Inter II, Tor Van Den Berge and Lauris As topped the class with 69.383%. Both Tor and Melissa Van Den Berge were busy across the weekend, riding a number of horses across many classes. Melissa and Tor placed 4th and 5th respectively in the Inter I CDN with Jazzaround and Cougar V.

It was a great weekend — and for those who travelled from down south, a good excuse to chase some warmer weather!
