British dressage rider Spencer Wilton has made the difficult decision to stand down from this year’s selection process for the European Dressage Championships with his top horse, Super Nova II.

Spencer Wilton and the 16-year-old De Niro gelding are instead focusing on their campaign for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Wilton posted on Facebook explaining the decision, saying that ‘’Neville is feeling on tip top form (he nearly succeeded in bucking me off last week!) so the new plan is to give him a quiet summer and then to do a couple of shows this autumn in preparation for next years campaign’’.

Wilton and Super Nova II were one of the winning combinations of the silver medal-winning British team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The duo were also members of team bronze at the FEI World Equestrian Games last year.

The FEI Dressage European Championships will be held from the 19th - 25th of August, in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
