The showjumping phase proved very influential at the 2018 Saddleworld Melbourne International 3-Day Event, with the leaderboard changing considerably in some classes. In many cases, there was less than a rail separating the top few after yesterday’s cross country.

In the CCI3*, Jade Finlay and Oaks Cordelia jumped one of only two clears to win on 32.20. Jessica Rae and Rascal produced the only other clear round to finish second on 33.0. Third went to Gemma Tinney riding Annapurna on 33.60, while fourth went to Rohan Luxmoore on 34.60; both Gemma and Rohan had one rail down each. The overnight leader, Jessica Woods and Just De Manzana, had two rails down and dropped to fifth on 36.50.

In the CIC3*, Amanda Ross and Koko Popping Candy scored a win with a terrific clear round, finishing on a scored of 32.90. They moved from second after the cross country to first after Shane Rose and Virgil had an unlucky rail to finish runner-up on 35.30. Third went to Olivia Barton and APH Bertie Bad on 35.70.

The big CCI2* class saw Stuart Tinney and Celebration win after a clear round; the pair finished on 26.30. Second went to the overnight leader Tim Boland riding Napoloeon, with one rail down leaving them on a score of 30.00. Third place went to Shane Rose and Ultimate Velocity on 30.40. The top nine finished under 40 penalties, so it was a hotly contested class.

The CCI1* class saw Shane Rose score a narrow win riding Easy Turn with 30.50. The pair were lying seventh after the dressage, rose to third following a clear cross country round, and then came out on top after jumping clear today. Second place went to Sophie Doake and Grandjany on 31.70; this combination led after the cross country, however a rail down in the showjumping proved costly today. Third place went to Victoria Doak and Girl With a Curl on a score of 32.20.

The final class of the event, the CCIJ1*, Jaimie McElroy and HH Hawke on a score of 43.10. The pair had one rail down in the showjumping, but still managed to hang on to the top spot ahead of Emily Cuthbert and Kirby Park Irish Tom on 47.10. Third went to Ella Smith and Jaybee Altimate on 49.20.
