Macedon Ranges Equine Centre Feasibility Study - now on public exhibition

Macedon Ranges Shire Council

A draft feasibility study which scopes the possibility of an equine centre, capable of hosting world-class equine events and competitions in the Macedon Ranges (Victoria), is now on public exhibition.

So far 680 surveys have been received and just over 100 local horse enthusiasts attended information sessions this week in Woodend and Romsey.  This is an amazing result, showing that there certainly is demand for a facility of this size and scale.

However, more surveys are needed as well as written submissions from industry bodies and organisations by Thursday 2 April when submissions close.  Governments will not fund major projects without demonstrated community and industry demand.

If you would like to see this project go ahead, please jump online now and fill out the online survey and refer to the questions and answers for reference.  Comments can also be shared on Facebook at facebook.com/macedonREIN and/or join the social media conversation by using the hashtag #macedonequinecentre.

The centre would be capable of hosting a whole range of competitions from equestrian to western disciplines and breed shows; it would also cater for the lower levels including pony and adult riding clubs and schools as well as offering educational opportunities.  The centre would be a multi-purpose venue designed to facilitate a number of events concurrently and also able to host, exhibitions, expos, entertainment and other livestock shows.

The feasibility study is an action in the 2012–17 Equine Strategy, which aims to support the sustainable growth of the equine industry and create local employment opportunities. The equine industry contributes an estimated $140 million each year to the local economy. To view the Equine Industry Strategy, visit mrsc.vic.gov.au/industries-strategies.
