Paris qualifying scores continue on day two of the Leader Equine Dressage Spectacular CPEDI

By Equestrian Life

On day two of the penultimate Australian Paralympic qualifier, hosted during the Leader Equine Dressage Spectacular, the spotlight once again shone on our para riders at Boneo Park in Victoria's Mornington Peninsula as the qualifying scores for Paris continued.

Organized by Jade Woodhead-Butler and the dedicated team at Carlton Performance Horses, the event showcased Australia’s talent as the quest for Paralympic qualification heats up.

Virtus Classes

The day showed much-improved weather to yesterday’s morning rain, with the Virtus II3 & II1 classes beginning at 8am. Jodin Bell and Lets Jazz it Up won the II3 class, with Sarah Sherwood and Dicavalli Royal Guess winners of the II1 class. The II2 class closed the Virtus sections, with Sui Watts and Gem Park Guess leading the way.

CPEDI3*

In the first Paralympic qualifier for the day, Lisa Martin and Vilaggio achieved another 70+% score of 70.044% to win the CPEDI3* Grade V Grand Prix B. It was another amazing result for this very new combination who only had their first outing together at Willinga Park CPEDI, and secured an exciting qualifying score yesterday 71.367%. Lisa also secured second with her 2022 FEI World Championship horse Juicy Wiggle on 68.816 % for another qualifying score.

Among other considerations, part of the nomination criteria for Australian team selection for the 2024 Paris Paralympics requires combinations to receive an overall percentage score of 67% or above in a Grand Prix Test A or B in at least two CPEDI 3* events between 1 October 2023 and 19 June 2024.

In the CPEDI3* Grade IV Grand Prix B, 2022 FEI World Championship competitor Dianne Barnes and mare Sorena again won the class with an impressive score of 68.378%. Second place saw another qualifying score achieved, with Zoe Vorenas and Wis Forte receiving 67.703 %.

The CPEDI3* Grade II Grand Prix B test was won by Bridget Murphy and Penmain Promise with a strong PB of 68.944%, an exciting result for the pair who have been together since the Covid lockdowns.

In the CPEDI3* Grade I Grand Prix B, Stella Barton enjoyed another win with Lord Larmarque on 68.750%; the second Paris qualifying score for them this weekend.

From the CPEDI3* riders in the Grade III Grand Prix B, Felicity Weal and Bloomfield Shameless took home the win in the class.

CPEDI2*

The PB’s continued to come in the CPEDI2* classes. In the morning, the CPEDI2* Grade V Inter B went to Claire Skerman and Regal Quickstep on a PB of 62.172%, with Darcy MacAulay winning the CPEDI2* Grade IV Inter B on a PB of 66.989%. Anne Skinner and Ballangeich Run Filou won the Intermediate Test B Grade III with a PB of 64.893%, with the CPEDI2* Grade I Inter B going to Kellie Tinworth and Augustine KT. The final class of the day, the CPEDI2* Grade II Inter B, went to Rebecca Webber and Glenayre Skyline with 65.088%.
