Sophia Hill lands in the UK to chase Olympic dream

By Equestrian Life

Australian eventer Sophia Hill has landed in the UK with off-the-track Thoroughbreds Humble Glory and Seattle Park, where she hopes to work towards her lifelong dream of representing Australia on the world stage.

“A little belated update to say we all made it to the UK!” shared Sophia via her social media page. “It was a very long trip, and baby Oliver [born November 2023] who continued to sleep everywhere and anywhere definitely emerged the best rested of all of us on arrival!”

Sophia and her two horses are based at Nicola Wilson’s yard in North Yorkshire. “The horses are thrilled with the large quantities of lush green grass along with their beautiful stables! We are living in a unit adjoining the stables which is very convenient.”

Sophia said the trip hadn’t all been smooth sailing – not only was their initial flight cancelled, but then once arriving in the UK Humble Glory unfortunately wasn’t feeling his best.

“Hughie tied up after his first proper ride here, and so we have had to take it very easy since. As a result, he won’t be running at Osberton Horse Trials this weekend, however we are hopeful for a quick recovery.”

However, Sophia is till set to saddle up Seattle Park at Osberton. “Basil (Seattle Park) has recovered from the travel beautifully, and is all set for a start in the CCI3** at Osberton!”

Sophia is long-listed for the Paris Olympics with Humble Glory and has relocated to the UK for five months to pursue Australian team selection. “Over the 5 months, I plan to represent Australia at Nations Cup Events, with our campaign ending at either Paris Olympics, or the 5* at Burghley Horse Trials,” she explained.

Travelling horses overseas is of course an expensive venture, and Sophia has launched an Australian Sports Foundation fundraising page to assist with the costs. You can find out more and donate here.
