In Top Form

Sam Overton and Oaks Cassanova

A favorite leading into this weekend, Sam Overton and the mighty little chestnut Oaks Cassanova won the 2022 Australian World Cup League Season, and represented Australia at the World Cup Finals last year in Omaha, Nebraska. The pair have started the year strong, winning the Grand Prix at GDP Classic and the World Cup Qualifier at P.S.I. DJWTS already.

Gemma Creighton and Dada Des Brimbelles Z

Gemma Creighton will contest the class aboard 2011 gelding owned by Liam and graham Huddy, Dada Des Brimbelles Z (Darco x G). Previously campaigned by Antoine Helie, Dada Des Brimbelles Z enjoyed a win in the CSIYH* class at Vilamoura, Portugal, in 2016 before returning to FEI at World Cup level with Gemma in 2023. The pair notably placed third in the World Cup Qualifier at Caboolture last year, and will be looking to improve on their seventh previously in this class at Larapinta.

Mattea Davidson with Checkamour D & Jaybee Vigilante

Queensland show jumper Mattea Davidson enters this competition of the back of a strong performance at Shepparton World Cup Qualifier 2024, where she won the first Australian League World Cup Qualifier for 2024, jumping a double clear to claim victory with Checkamour D.

It was Mattea's first World Cup qualifier win and she did it in style, also taking second place aboard Jaybee Vigilante. Mattea, a former eventer, produced the only two double clears of the competition over David Sheppard's challenging course. Checkamour D stopped the clock at 57.65, with Jaybee Vigilante (who is also a former eventer) posting a time of 58.99. Mattea and her horses will be one’s to watch!

Phillip Lever and Billionaire NZPH

Phillip Lever starts the 14-year-old Billionaire NZPH in the World Cup Qualifier this weekend, following on from their strong form over the last year. Together, they placed second in the 2023 Australian Senior Title, and fourthin the Chatham Park World Cup Qualifier CSI-W* 2023, third in the CSI1*-W World Cup Two Rounds 1.55m at DJWTS and fifth at Shepparton World Cup earlier this year. Incredibly consistent at this level, is this the event the pair receive their World Cup Qualifier win?

Billy Raymont and Caprino

Billy and 2012 gelding Caprino, owned by Caitlin Bolger and Jacinta Kinsella, will be a combination to watch this weekend. Billy, who is no stranger to this level having represented Australia on the world stage, enters this class on Caprino with a fourth in the Grand Prix earlier in the year at GDP Classic, and a win in the national level Grand Prix (1.50-1.55) at Boneo Monthly Showjumping, where the pair were the only double clear.

Stuart Jenkins and Fairview Alicana

Juggling many hats this weekend, Event Director Stuart Jenkins and homebred mare Fairview Alicana will be fan favorites come Saturday. Stuart has been at the elite end of show jumping here in Australia for many years, with numerous Grand Prix victories and a World Cup win to his name. This combination enter 2024 with a Senior Title win at the Australian Jumping Championships in 2023, and a successful 2023 season which included second in the Grand Prix at the World Wetlands Day Jumping Championships at Boneo Park; a win in the Grand Prix on the Sunshine Coast, named leading young horse at Sydney Royal in April; a win in the Grand Prix at Brisbane Royal in August, and then in the same month a second place finish at the World Cup in Tamworth.
