Top cartoonist to put Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials in the picture

A top equestrian cartoonist has been appointed as the first ever ‘official artist’ at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials 2015.

Patrick Latham, who has drawn for Horse and Hound, Your Horse and British Eventing, will be documenting the action and giving his interpretation of the renowned Horse Trials, which take place in Stamford, Lincolnshire on 3 – 6 September 2015.

Patrick will be on hand during the event, capturing the excitement with illustrations of competitors in action, spectators and other attractions, including the vast array shops and food stands.

Commenting on his new role, Patrick Latham said: “I enjoy attending the Burghley Horse Trials every year as a spectator and am thrilled to have been asked to become involved in a more official capacity.

“I am really looking forward to portraying the spirit of this brilliant event. It will be a great opportunity for drawing, with so much going on, from the pressure the competitors experience, to the power of the horses and the highs and lows of competing, which are shared between riders and spectators alike.

“As well as coming to enjoy the drama of the sporting action, a lot of people visit Land Rover Burghley for the shopping and socializing, so I am also hoping to meet a few colourful characters along the way!”

Some of Patrick’s best pictures will be made available on social media, with others being offered up as competition prizes that visitors to the event will have the chance to win.

Commenting on the first appointment of an official artist, Elizabeth Inman, Event Director at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, said: “Written documentation and photographs are a key part of recording the activity at the Trials but we thought having a cartoonist on site would add a new dimension and be another way to capture the atmosphere, as well as perhaps adding a touch of humour.

“Patrick is a very talented cartoonist with an equestrian specialism and it’s great that eventing enthusiasts will have the chance to win some of his creations and may be able to hang a hand-drawn, original illustration of their favourite rider at home.”

Competition details will be made available on the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials website, Facebook and Twitter in September.

The Burghley Horse Trials are one of the most popular and highly regarded in the equestrian calendar. This year’s trials will run from 3 – 6 September 2015 in the parkland surrounding Burghley House, Stamford, with competition categories including dressage, show-jumping and cross-country.
