Bob Long was first across in the line in the Derby after eight consecutive days of riding in the 1000km contest.

Former Chris Waller and now Ciaron Maher-Dave Eustace employee Justine Hales crossed the line with three other competitors in equal third.

It's just the eleventh time the Derby has been held with the race developed after the postal route established by Genghis Khan in 1224 – the world's first long distance postal system, based on a network of horse stations.

Last year's Mongol Derby was won by Adrian Corboy and Annabel Neasham. Corboy gained the call-up to compete as a substitute for trainer Ciaron Maher, who had broken a leg at trackwork after being tossed off his Caulfield Cup winner Jameka. Neasham currently manages Ciaron Maher's Warwick Farm stable.
